Reflection – Tell Your Stories Workshop Series

Roadmap for Tell your story with eScrapbook Series

Roadmap for Tell your story with eScrapbook Series

Introduction

Over the last 2.5 years, I have developed a roadmap comprising workshops that let the seniors choose their paths to the creative journey of electronic scrapbooking (aka eScrapbooking). Some like to edit like a pro, exploring different video editing tools and techniques. Others just enjoy creating slideshow without breaking a sweat. Here are some examples of the profiles of my learners:

Profiles of the Learners

1) Casual and avid photographers–Many have collected a load of photos about their travel and bird-watching trips. They like to do more with their pictures by creating a story and sharing it.

2) Grandparents–They like to keep track of the growth of their grandchildren. Particularly since 2020, the pandemic has created restrictions for family gatherings. eScrapbooking promotes intergenerational bonding. In addition, it helps grandparents to engage the millennial generation better.
3) Stay-at-home mothers–By telling their stories in digital media on social media helps them to keep in touch with their loved ones and friends.

4) Others–eScrapbooking appeals to those who aspire to age well and leave a legacy for their loved ones.

In all the above, the workshops address the most basic needs of freeing up space on smartphones, getting back to simplicity, and doing more with less.

The Creative Journey

Adults have different learning styles, the three primary learning styles being visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Because of this, we adapt the workshops based on the understanding of the different learning styles. exploring multiple art forms via electronic scrapbooks, music videos and stop motion. Besides learning a useful skill, it is about the camaraderie among the participants that we enjoyed. The last session of the workshop is the grand finale where everyone will present their class projects.  As a result of the participants’ diverse backgrounds and perspectives, the projects presented were an eye-opening experience for us.

In the workshop recently, we went to Telok Ayer to shoot, sketch and record (see earlier blogs iOuting Trip Workshop – Capture your iOuting Experience and iOuting – Telek Ayer Art Trail). We encourage everyone to express themselves in ways that are most natural and authentic. It was amazing how everyone shared a unique perspective, even though we were on the same trip.
